Covering letter

The submission should include a cover letter including:

1. Originality statement: Authors must certify that the material submitted for publication has not been published except in abstract form and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

2. Ethical statement: To be acceptable for publication, experiments on living non-human vertebrates or Octopus vulgaris must conform to the European Union’s Legislation (Directive 2010/63/EU) and are in accordance with guidelines set by the Committee for Research and Ethical Issues of IASP. Every research article submitted to our Journal must include statement that the study obtained ethich approval, the number/ID of the approval(s).
The journal Veterinarski Arhiv will not accept reports for publishing whose authors have not adhered to the rules, regulations, and the laws for the human treatment of animals. See: Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes, 22 September 2010, Official Journal of the European Union L276, 20 October 2010, pp. 33-79. All materials published in journal Veterinarski Arhiv must adhere to high ethical standards concerning animal welfare. (Consensus Guidelines on Animal Ethics and Welfare for Veterinary Journals ‒ International Association of Veterinary Editors, Geneva, Switzerland, 2010).

Animal ethics based criteria for manuscript consideration

Manuscripts will be considered for publication only if the work described therein:

1) Follows international, national, and/or institutional guidelines for human animal treatment and complieswith the r elevant legislation;
2) Has been approved by the ethics review committee at the institution or practice at which the studies were conducted, were such a committee exists,
3) For studies using client-owned animals, demonstrates a high standard (best practice) of veterinary care and involves informed client consent.

Prior to acceptance of a manuscript, to verify compliance with the above policies, the authors must:

1) Sign a letter certifying that the legal and ethical requirements have been met with regards to the humane treatment of animals described in the study;
2) Specify in Materials and methods the ethical review committee approval process and the international, national, and/or institutional guidelines followed.

Animal ethics based criteria for manuscript rejection:
1) Manuscripts and authors that fail to meet the aforementioned requirements;
2) Studies that involve unnecessary pain, distress, suffering, all lasting harm to animals;
3) The Editor retains the right to reject manuscripts on the basis of ethical or welfare concerns.

3. Conflict of interest statement: Authors are required to disclose any potential conflict of interest such as consultancies, financial involvement, patent ownership, etc. At the time of submission, authors of research articles must disclose any financial arrangement they have with the company whose product is featured prominently in the submitted manuscript, or with a company making a competing product.

4. Contribution of each author statement: All persons designated as authors should qualify for authorship, and all those who qualify should be listed. The contribution of each author must be declared in the cover letter, which should follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscipts Submitted to Biomedical Journals produced by the International Committee of Medical journal Editors. All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed iin an acknowledgments section.
